An Introduction to India

Tonight we had our first presentation about India.  Neka, Sang, and Rohit introduced the class to India, reviewing facts on history, geography, demographics, and festivals. Some of the most interesting points for me where:

• A conversation about arranged marriages in India. It was really interesting to hear the reasoning why they exist, how people respond to them, and what the trends are throughout India.
• A discussion of IST - Indian Standard Time - and how culture is accustomed to it. 
• The various festivals and gods in India. I am so excited we will be visiting Agra during Holi!!
• A conversation about the British dividing the country, and how it didn't really make sense.  I've had this conversation regarding Israel ever since I can remember.

So next week, Angie, Julie, & Theresa and I will present about New Dehli. I'm excited to learn more about the first city on our trip. :)
